The German fashion and lifestyle personality Lisa Straube on love, family and life with her two dogs, Polo & Fendi.

Lisa and Polo, the family’s four-legged boss.

How long have you been a dog mom?

I’ve actually had dogs around me for as long as I can remember. We’ve had everything from Rottweilers to Yorkies. But my first dog of my own was Polo. I secretly got him in 2020 when I was living alone in Düsseldorf, because I just found it so strange and unfamiliar to come home to a house without a furry companion.

Was it always clear that there would eventually be two?

Hmm… difficult question. I brought Polo into the relationship, and back then we actually made the decision very spontaneously. If it were entirely up to us, we’d probably have 20 dogs.

How would you describe your little family?

CHAOTIC. Especially when you also have a child at home, there is literally always, always something going on. But honestly, I love it just the way it is. Without all that chaos, something would definitely be missing.

Cuddles, chaos and unconditional love.

What does your everyday life with two dogs look like? And what are the challenges?

Something is happening every single day. I honestly don’t think there’s a single day when everything is completely calm at home . Since we both work from home, we really spend 24/7 with the dogs and try to take them with us wherever we go. To us, they’re not just pets. They’re our little babies.

Who’s the boss?

Definitely Polo. He is by far the smartest dog I’ve ever known. He’s incredibly human-like and understands every little word you say and every emotion we go through. In every situation. Sometimes you genuinely get the feeling that he thinks in our language but simply can’t speak. There are so many things I could tell you about Polo. He is my everything.

Who’s the funniest?

Fendi, our Toy Poodle. He is SO hyper. We also like to call him the Duracell Bunny. He’s either completely full of energy and bouncing off the walls, or he’s snuggled up right next to you. He just has this adorably goofy and funny personality that can sometimes drive you absolutely crazy, but most of the time it’s hilarious. Emilio loves Fendi the most because he’s always doing crazy things that make Emilio laugh his head off. By the way, Emilio calls him “Detti” instead of Fendi .

Where there’s chaos, there’s love.

Who loves cuddling the most?

Both of them equally. They are absolute cuddle bugs.

And who’s the little rebel?

I’d say Polo. Because he’s so smart, he always knows exactly what to do when he wants something.

What have your dogs taught you about life?

Love doesn’t need words. Dogs are proof that such a pure, unconditional kind of love exists, even when you don’t speak the same language. They show you love in their very own, unique way.

Fendi, the little Duracell Bunny.

What is your favorite moment together every day?

In the evening, when we switch off and unwind from the day, we all lie together on the sofa and simply cuddle.

If your two dogs had a WhatsApp group, what would it be called?

"The Devil Wears Polo & Fendi."

What is your ultimate weakness when it comes to your dogs?

TOYS! Whenever I’m shopping and see something for my little ones, I HAVE to bring it home for them. They get so, so, so excited every time — just like little kids.
